Technology Will Obliterate The Natural Human Reproduction Process

Research Paper Instructions:

In the final paper, your task is to produce a long-form trade journal style article intended for a general, technology-interested readership. As a reference for tone and readership, see Wired Magazine, or MIT Technology Review. Your paper is to be long-form, meaning longer and more in-depth than a typical online article. On paper, this translates to ~8 pages in length, single spaced, 11 pt. font.

In this paper, you will be making an informed prediction about a topic related to the role of technology in the future. The paper should aim to persuade the reader that, while speculative, that there is good reason to believe that this prediction may not only be true, but is an issue worth caring about.

The prediction can be on anything related to technology and it's impact on society, business, education, or any other area of significant interest. You can also choose multiple predictions, so far as they relate to one another in a coherent way. "Future" can be defined on any timescale, from a few years into the future, to centuries.

Importantly, the paper should aim to strike a balance between two (potentially competing) forces: the novelty of the claim (nobody has said this before, and its a new way to think about the future of technology), and the rigorousness of the claim (there is good reason to believe this prediction may come true). Ideally, the goal is to produce a paper takes a maximally novel and interesting claim, while at the same time being intellectually justified.

Technology will obliterate the Natural Human Reproduction Process Name Institution Technology will obliterate the Natural Human Reproduction Process Technology has had a great impact in enhancing human reproduction and as such, it has gained momentum in the last several decades, thus promising to change the future of human reproduction as we now know it. Evidently, there have been questions and speculations that technology will be the end of human beings not only because of the growth and development in the artificial intelligence (AI) field but also due to the progress in the field of genetics. There is fear that these fields can bring forth a new species of super-humans which will overtake and finally wipe out the human race. Such speculations, while unverified, are based on the current trends in the modern world. However, before we get there, I believe that technology will first obliterate the natural human reproduction process. In most cases, a technology that is designed to improve the lives of human beings can have some unintended consequences, which could either be negative or positive. There have been several technological advancements in the field of human reproduction which, coupled with other technologies, have impacted not only reproduction but also human sex life. These technologies, some of which have had unintended consequences on the nature of human reproduction, will not only form the basis of but will also justify this prediction. Before proceeding, it is imperative that I give a little background on the topic. The natural human reproduction process entails a number of activities. The absence of any of the activities mentioned hereafter will characterize an unnatural human reproduction process. Naturally, human beings reproduce sexually, a process which involves sexual intercourse between a male and a female. As such, the fertilization of the egg by the sperm happens internally and the embryo ends up acquiring one half of each parent’s DNA. However, over the past several years, technology has enhanced, either intentionally or unintentionally, the alteration of this process. In some cases, technology has made it possible for human beings to reproduce without internal fertilization and in other cases, it has created situations that inhibit the ability of human beings to engage in sexual intercourse, as will be revealed later in this paper. There are also prospects that technology will enable human beings to determine which part of their DNA they transfer to their offspring in the near future, given that such technology has been tested on other species. Given this background information, it is time now to address each technological factor that will contribute to the total removal of the natural reproduction process, as follows; Sex Robots The rise of sex robots has raised a fierce debate not only among religious groups but also among the medical field, especially in relation to ethics. In addition, there have been fears that sex robots will destroy the marriage institution. The imminent danger, however, relates to the effect that sex robots will have on the natural reproduction process of human beings. Sexual intercourse between male and female serves two purposes; reproduction and pleasure. Sex robots will serve the second purpose and given that sexual intercourse is not necessary for reproduction in our current generation, there will be no other need to engage in the act, even for the healthy group of people without any reproduction problems. While there are currently no fully functioning sex robots, technology advancements will ensure that they exist in the near future. Any technological innovation or invention is usually aimed at filling an existing gap or making life easier and interesting for human beings. That is why AIs have been introduced, not because there are no human beings to perform the designated roles, but because AIs increase efficiency. As a result, human labor is becoming obsolete in some industries and it has been predicted that this trend will continue to the extent of eliminating human labor entirely. This is why I believe that by 2100, there will be fully functional sex robots which will help human beings get away with the challenges that are experienced in modern-day intimate relationships between human beings. As revealed by Nascimento, Silva, &Siqueira-Batista (2018), sex robots are manufactured with the intention of meeting the fantasies of human beings, more so those fantasies held by men. Having a robot that has all the features you need in a partner, including intelligence and customized physical characteristics, will definitely reduce the need for a physical relationship with an actual human being. The same way AIs are expected to become super intelligent and probably obliterate the entire human race, sex robots will obliterate the need for a physical relationship with other human beings once they become fully developed. The same way it has been predicted that human beings will become totally dependent on robots for their day to day activities, sex robots will also invade the sex life of human beings. It will be like having a partner who not only understands what you need but will also be available and not limited by the usual issues such as busy schedules that limit the intimate relationship between human beings. Given such possibilities of the perfect “partner” in the form of sex robots, human beings will resort to other ways of reproducing because they will eventually abandon the natural way. In the future, sex robots will become part of human existence, probably prompting the need to legalize a union between humans and robots. While this will reflect a reduction in the need for the human to human intimate relationships, it will not eliminate the need for reproduction. To meet this need, non-natural reproduction techniques will be adopted and incorporated into our everyday life. If technology can be designed to replace human beings, what else can it do? It will definitely replace all the natural processes, including human reproduction process. Internet Pornography and Video Games Technology advancements and the internet have intensified the accessibility of materials, regardless of distance and time. The use of technology and the internet is especially common among the young generation who are tech-savvy and more open to new experiences. Usually, technology has allowed them to stay informed, entertained and in touch with their peers. However, there has also been a downside to this access, which brings us back to the role of technology in obliterating the natural human reproduction process. Over recent years, many young people have been accessing internet pornography and it has come with its share of problems, especially in relation to sexual reproduction. A recent review of clinical reports on the issue revealed that more young men are having sexual difficulties at an alarming rate and most of these difficulties are associated with watching too much pornography. Watching pornography was also associated with low sexual desire to have a physical relationship with women, and this problem was seen more in men below the age of 25 years (Park, et al., 2016). With this information, it is safe to say that reproduction as a result of sexual intercourse will be difficult in future, all thanks to the internet and technological advancements that have made it possible for young people to access adult videos. It is common knowledge that porn is addictive and as such, it is unlikely that there will be withdrawal from watching those videos. If anything, they will become even more accessible given the disruptive nature of technology in many industries, and the porn industry will have to adopt new technologies so as to increase their viewership. In fact, more young boys are currently using their free time to video chat with women who star in these adult videos instead of going out to interact with their peers. Future technology could also facilitate virtual reality sex with porn stars, making the current internet pornography obsolete. Can there be really sexual reproduction with virtual reality sex? The answer is a strong no, which will facilitate unnatural forms of reproduction. With a lack of techniques to counter this downside, it is evident that as a result of internet pornography, future generations will have to result to other means of reproducing other than the natural way, given that more young men might find it challenging to impregnate a woman. For instance, as a way of dealing with this problem, more technological advancements will be made to allow men who have erectile dysfunction or other problems having sexual intercourse to harvest their healthy sperms and use them to fertilize an egg. Other than internet pornography, video games are also occupying young men too much and are becoming a problem for their sex drive. A study conducted by Sansone, et al. (2017) indicates that men who are actively playing video games suffer from a low sex drive because playing video games releases the dopamine hormone, which is the same hormone released during an orgasm, making them more tolerant to the hormone. The study also revealed that the stress and aggressive behavior associated with video games have a great impact on the ability of the player to engage in sexual intercourse. Difficulty in sexual intercourse translates to difficulties in reproducing naturally. Video games have become an integral part of life and are not only being played for recreational purposes, but also as a source of revenue through e-sports. New technologies are being developed every day to improve these video games and as a result, more people are getting involved. Given the current trend, it is likely that in future, more men will be exposed to enhanced video games, which will ultimately affect their sex drive and ability or frequency to reproduce. Thus, human beings will resort to other means of reproduction, such as those involved in assisted reproduction technology, thus eliminating the natural reproduction process. Assisted Reproduction Technology Assisted reproduction technology (ART) has been one of the greatest milestones in human reproduction. To better understand how this technology will lead to the elimination of the natural human reproduction process, it is important to first highlight the evolution of ART. One of the advancements in science and technology that allowed human beings to reproduce through means other than sexual intercourse is referred to as artificial insemination. This involves the introduction of sperm into the female uterus to allow for fertilization without sexual intercourse. An article published in the Journal of Human Reproduction on ART history reveals that a successful human artificial insemination case was first published in the 1830s and like most medical inventions, it was surrounded by controversy especially due to ethical and moral concerns that arose from the practice. Regardless, this technology came to be acceptable and has now extended to sperm donation in current times, especially for couples who are not heterosexual. This milestone is important in the prediction of elimination of natural human repr...
