Over the last decade, Asian gaming culture has gained global popularity. The Asia-Pacific region comprises of more than 51 per cent of gamers, enthusiasts and spectators in the world. Gaming has become an integral part of the Asian community. There is a drastic rise in the video game culture characterized by the latest and emerging technological patterns in mobile phones, game consoles and mobile phones (Jin, 2017, 1). Through well-integrated software systems, web developers have reinvented the face of gaming. Today in Asia, the gaming industry has become a hub for information for the leading communication technology corporations and source of capital for the majority of the population. The video game culture is changing the way people behave how they interact and how they conduct business. For decades countries in Asia have been the center of global technological trends based on the deep-rooted culture of knowledge acquisition and self-development. Asia Pacific region is home to the leading and most innovative smartphone manufacturers such as HTC in Taiwan, Huawei and Lenovo in China, Samsung and LG in Korea.
From this perspective, the Asian game culture has been a significant beneficiary of the rapidly changing mobile phone paradigm that has facilitated the transformation of gaming consoles and mobile games to the latest mobile applications (McCauley, 2020, 7). Primarily the driving factor for the rapidly growing video game culture is the adventurous and energetic nature of the Asian market. Most of the young people are enthusiastic and eager to try new game consoles as soon as they reach the market. As a result, smartphone manufacturers are collaboratively working with game console manufacturers to load the best suitable applications to enhance user experience and practicality. This a significant driving engine for the vibrant and growing industry. This paper will explore the fully-fledged gaming culture to establish the most dominant aspects of the video game culture and identify various the ways it is shaping the Asian-Pacific society.
Technology based education programs
Video games are favorite form of entertainment for young people across all ages as well as adults. However in Asia the gaming culture is made up enthusiastic, energetic and passionate young people only. Equally important is that majority of the population is young and has an entrepreneurial spirit. The evolving smartphone market has contributed significantly to the video game culture and has become a symbolic and material resource for people's mobile gaming lifestyle. The advent of new and advanced soft wares, applications have drastically changed the video game culture. Most of the people are energetic and live in a well-endowed environment that is favorable for online gaming. The recent emergence of the iconic and highly publicized gaming events such as the League of Legends World Championship held in Korea attests to the growing demand for video consoles in the region (Fung, and Ho, 2015, 3380). This robust and passionate gaming culture thrives on the complexity and pro-technology, computer savviness that is embedded in the Asian culture. Traditionally Asian culture is built on inclusivity and togetherness. From this perspective, all members of the community must be part of all activities taking place in society. For instance, the Korean educational is based on strong firm foundations based on heavy technological consumption to secure a position in the prestigious Ivies and hence work in the leading smartphone manufacturers such as LG and Samsung
Evolution of the video game industry to a mature market has also been characterized by the ease of access to video game stations. Most of the video game stations are close to the academic institution and therefore tap in a majority of the young population. Through these students will spend a lot of time in the studio which eventually can lead to heavy consumption or cause a drastic rise in curiosity and the need to stay up to date with the latest technological advancements. Therefore the availability and accessibility of the video games are an increasingly striking claim to growing and evolving video game culture. While there are distinct and different games in the market, the industry is full of undisputed and unverified facts between mobile gaming and PC gaming. Although there is a striking difference between the overall growth indicators and metrics of consumption rate of PC, mobile and online gaming, there have drastically contributed to the maturity of the mainstream gaming culture (Hjorth, et al., 2009, 55).
Majority of the Asian countries are the latest test-bed for the future of mobile technology and form the largest market share in the market. Some of the most popular video games were launched, test and verified in the Asian market before they were distributed to the common market. Following this, young people regularly flock the PC bangs to take part in the latest pilot tests that form a larger market share. On a global and national scale, the Asian market is the major consumer of most technological goods and products that before there hit the international markets. In 2019 the gaming industry in the Asia Pacific accrued more than 72.2 billion U.S dollars which two times the revenue of North America (Baltezarević, Baltezarević, and Baltezarević, 2018, 71). This is characterized by the vast market share, high-level technology, deep-rooted gaming culture, high speed of development and the massive online and offline market. In the society of gaming, China boasts one of the largest online gaming communities. Due to the deep-rooted values and cultures in calculated in the region, it is the best hub for local and foreign tourism. South Korea boasts a giant gaming industry that plays an interesting role in the Asia Pacific region. Japan is also a homegrown country for the vibrant gaming market with a web network of companies such as Nintendo, Namco Bandai. Due to the extensive similarities in the region, Asia Pacific has drastically taken over the gaming industry.
With new advanced technologies flooding the market every day, video games are changing the user interface, interactive elements. The industry has shifted from traditional console systems such as Nintendo Entertainment System, Gameboy and Play station to more complex and well-integrated online games that supports a vast network of players (Fung, and Ho, 2015). These games are made of interactive and multiplayer features that allow for ferocious competitor amongst the players. In essence, this draws crowds of people to participate in gaming activities, thus gaining more popularity among youths. Moreover, the cultural aspect of technological knowledge acquisition also fuels the growing demand for video games. The cultural context aligns into perspective the right mind frame and position, which is embedded in the gamer community with shared beliefs and practices. Drawing from these insights, it is evident that the game content and player experience significantly shape the gaming culture (Kuss, 2013, 100). Nowadays, the entertainment scene is the Asia Pacific is drawn to attract and retain a fierce giant gaming Industry. Multiplayer online gamers manufacturers have drastically capitalized on the production of technology integrated applications and software's that invoke the competitive and enthusiastic nature video game players.
Strict Education System
Although the Asian countries have distinct cultures share some of the profound and deep-rooted systems based on the Confucian theories, majority of the Asian culture's belief are founded on extreme and ferocious study routines to fit in the highly competitive industry. According to Kim (2005, 339), a student in Asian countries is exposed to intensive and intrusive study methods that can cause excessive exhaustion, brain freeze. As a result, many students use gaming as a coping mechanism to refresh and keep up with the extreme studying conditions.
