Gunman's Mother
A decade ago, Terri Robert son, Charles Roberts went to the Amish school close to Lancaster, Pa and opened fire that killed five children and injured five others before killing himself. Terri Roberts heard about the shooting of the Amish schoolhouse from the radio. However, later she learned his son was responsible for the shooting when his husband arrived with the state police and broke the news to her that his son, Charles, was responsible for the Amish school shooting. Robert’s family was troubled on how to face the Amish neighbors, however, the Amish community did the unexpected by forgiving the shooter and in fact, some Amish members attended the private funeral of their son. However, Terri finds it difficult to accept Amish community forgiveness when she thinks of the difficulties the survivors passes through. Moreover, the Amish community choice to allow life to progress offered solace and healing to Robert family (“A decade after,”2016).
September 11 incident
Vaughn Allex, working at Dulles International Airport was responsible of checking passengers onto flight. On September 11, 2001, he checked two men onto Flight 77 who were among the five hijackers who crashed the flight into the Pentagon killing passengers and themselves. Allex discovered that he had checked hijackers onto the Flight 77 when the following morning, the official handed him the manifest for the flight. All the people he had checked in the Flight 77 they were all gone. People stopped talking to Allex and started to believe he was responsible of what happened on September 11. The incident is still vivid on Allex memory, however talking about the incident has helped him gain consolation and healing (“On Sept 11,”2016).
Major adjustment issues
Robert family had difficulties to adjust after their son killed five children and injured five others. The incidence changed their perception on how to relate with the Amish neighbors. Moreover, Terri finds it difficult to adjust when she thinks of the one of the survivors, Rosanna. The suffering that Rosanna undergoes of being tube-fed, confined in a wheelchair and having seizures makes it hard for Terri to adjust (“A decade after,”2016).
Vaughn Allex had difficulties to adjust when he realized he had checked hijackers onto the flight, who crashed the flight into the Pentagon. Allex had checked in retiree’s family, a student group with their teachers and parents and they were all gone. Moreover, adjusting was hard, since people stopped talking to him and believed he was responsible for the death of their loved ones. In addition, when people say their loved ones died on September 11, he still thinks he was responsible for their deaths (“On Sept 11,”2016).

Cognitive behavior therapy will assist Robert family to improve their adjustment skills. The CBT will alter the way Robert family thinks about their son’s shooting incidence that causes the problem to them. For instance, Terri thinks she is not worthy for the Amish community forgiveness, cognitive behavior therapy disputes those beliefs and offer Terri better strategies. The CBT might use the technique of asking Terri to give evidence why she is not worth to be forgiven. This might prompt Terri to recognize the Amish community presence during the private funeral of their son that showed they still loved and considered her as part of their community. Therefore, this realization will help Terri to recognize her beliefs are wrong (The Australian Psychological Society Ltd, 2011).
