Introduction
For any organisations today, one of the most influential factors that determine how first they grow is the environment. The organisations short-terms and the long-term strategies are always in light of the changes that are experienced and anticipated in the environment within which the organisation is operating. Organisations spend billions of dollars trying to make sure that they stay ahead of these changes so that are not affected negatively. There are two sets of the environments that every organisation has to contend with in the light of making the most profitable ventures. These environments include the external and the internal environments. As the name suggests, the external environment relates to the business factors outside the business realm and have indirect influence on business in totality. The business and the management also have little or no influence on these environments (Boundless, 2014). The external environments can also be divided into two where there is a micro environment and the macro environment. The micro environment relates to the fact that they have micro influence on the business operations. Ideally this relates to the reason that the micro environments are also referred to as the operating environments (Marketing91.com, 2014). Supplier, customers, marketing intermediaries, financiers and the public are part of the micro external environment. Then, there is the other section of the external environment, called the macro environment (Cave, 2014). This is a much more volatile environment and the business may not have much influence on these environments such that if there are uncertainties, the success of the business will solely depend on how well it can adapt to the new changes. The macro external environments include the following; economic, social, legal, political and technical environments.
On the other hand, the internal environments are those that the business has direct control and they have direct impact on the operations of the business. This is an environment that the business can address and make changes to in light of any developments and effect with much tussle (Open.edu, 2014). Aspects such as the physical facilities, marketing, structure, personnel and the functions of the various departments within the organisation can be altered accordingly to fit the best practices and adaptability to the external forces (Small Business - Chron.com, 2014).
The Interaction between the Environment and the Business and the Influence of the Former on Business
There are always constant interactions between the environment and the organisation where each of the facets has their influence on the other. Constant relationship means that the business is always coming up with ways to turn around the different changes in the environment into stepping stones. The environment on the other hand, is always trying to dictate the terms of conducting business. The analysis of the relationship between the two can be a done through some three fundamental ways. One of the ways to determine the kind of relationship that exists between the environment and the business is on the input and output basis (Boundless, 2014). The input out basis relates to the aspects of business operations where the business takes in some inputs and gives out some out puts. Inputs from the environment such as capital, labour and technology among others are used in the transformation of the goods and services into deliverables that the customers can use to satisfy their demand and needs (Marketing91.com, 2014). It can also be said that the business is acting as a form of a mediator, converting the inputs into outputs. While some of the inputs are chosen others, the business will have to contend with. Business can thus play an important role in the kind of inputs and influences that affect them by predetermining the kind of environment and the set of influences they are willing to contend with. This complexity is due to the fact that different environments have unique set of factors that will affect the cost of doing business.
In an effort to balance the odds, businesses will always try to have some form of influence to the environment as part of establishing the analysis basis. It means that the business can interact with the environment with the former having effects that influence change with the later (Small Business - Chron.com, 2014). These changes could be in the form of opportunities and they can also be in the form of threats and opportunities. What the business does with the opportunities or the threats that it has created in the environment are entirely up to the strategies in place and the objects it seeks to achieve in the short and long terms.
The influence of the environment on the businesses is based on the many facets in the environment that affect the organisations operations. This will be in respect to the realisation of the many contributions that the various groups in the environment make to the well being of the business operations. Groups such as the suppliers, customers, staffs and the society in general have great and subtle contributions to the operations of any organisation (Marketing91.com, 2014). Taking caution that all of the contributors are given the right platform will influence the relationship between them and the business and ultimately the success of the latter.
The External Environments
As previously mentioned, there are no businesses that operate in a vacuum as they have to interact with different parts of the business environment. The external environment is part of the business environments that the businesses have to consider and conquer if they are to remain profitable now and in the future. One of the key aspects of the external environment is the customers and the social aspects of the environment. Every day the clients are exposed to new products and ideas from the competitors and are bound to change their stand. At the same time they are bound to change their views based on their economic abilities. This is a section of the external environment that remains very volatile and easily be swayed by the market (Boundless, 2014). Suppliers are also likely to be swayed by the prices in the market as well as the cost of doing business. Given that they are also profitable entities, if their ventures with a given company are not as profitable compared to another, they may persuaded to shift. Political, economic and legal environments within the external environment remain as some of the most crucial aspects. These are factors that can influence most of the other environment; while they remain very difficult to control the businesses in markets where these three are fluctuating irregularly, have to adopt strategies that help the organisation adapt specific strategies tailored to this market characteristic.
The Internal Environments
The internal environmental factors also play a great role in defining the business and the objectives that is going to formulate and try to achieve. Leadership in any company is one of the most crucial factors within the internal environment that affects the shape and trajectory of the business objective on the financial charts (Open.edu, 2014). Different leaders have different management styles and this inturn affect that the strategies any business employs alongside the objectives that will be set under the management. The culture at the work place is also a very crucial aspect which implies the relationships between the different levels of staff and even between the staff and clients as well as other intermediary partners such as suppliers. The culture of the organisation also dictates other factors such as the communication protocols. The later is one of the most crucial in any organisation and where there are barriers relative to the company culture. This is going to create a lot of lag and conflict between the internal parties and may even escalate to the external environments.
The employees of the organisation in question also happen to have some subtle influence on the operations of the business and the outlook, meaning that the shape of the organisation is altered.
