External environment refers to the outside factors and influences affecting business operations. One of the external environments is the regulatory environment. Nickelodeon TV has regulations regarding its content rating, data privacy laws, and how it advertises to children. This is why some people have complained that some of its movies showed inappropriate behavior harmful to kids (Young & Miller-Medzon, 2024). These regulations, therefore, affect the organization’s marketing and operations measures. The next external environment is the industry competition. The media and entertainment industry is one of the most competitive industries in the world. One of the main reasons this industry has outstanding organizations competing for children's networks is that it makes the competition stiff. Some of Nickelodeon's competitors include Cartoon Network and Disney Channel. Moreover, the organization faces competition from streaming platforms such as Disney+ and Netflix. The other external environment facing Nickelodeon TV is social and cultural trends. Some of society's changes include changes in diversity, preferences, and inclusion initiatives that shift family dynamics. Failing to employ these preferences can destroy the organization’s image. For example, Nickelodeon has faced opposition due to children having sexual undertones and engaging in-jokes that were racially charged (Huamani, 2024).
