The Statue Of The Seated Scribe

1 The Seated Scribe​, c. 2620-2500 B.C.E., c. 4th Dynasty, Old Kingdom, painted limestone with rock crystal, magnesite, and copper/arsenic inlay for the eyes and wood for the nipples. 2 The statue of the seated scribe clearly differs from the statue of Menkaure and Khafre specifically with color, and character portrayed. Menkaure and Khafre are depictions of people of high status, while the seated scribe is an unnamed and unknown person. However, what stands out from the seated scribe is the life-like creation due to the paint, and how the details were done on the statue. The seated scribe was made with a variety of materials that had the properties that resemble realness and thus, the image was infused with a likeness that made the statue seem alive. In contrast, the the Menkaure and the Khafre statue both feature an elegance of the dark hue of slate.
