Question 1
Teachers' beliefs about teaching are reflected in their teaching practices and their interaction with students. For instance, if a teacher believes in the principle of active engagement, he would be more interested in the joyful learning experience of students (Levine & McCloskey, 2013). The teacher would create enjoyable and engaging student activities in such a case. The teacher would achieve this by creating a comfortable atmosphere that values and encourages student efforts. Conversely, if a teacher does not believe in the principle of active engagement, they may rely on more classical teaching methods. Such teachers would not create opportunities for students to play an active role in their learning. Moreover, a teacher's beliefs about teaching can also be reflected in how they set and communicate goals, provide feedback, and differentiate instruction while meeting their students' needs.
Question 2
After reading the chapter, I believe that active engagement, cultural relevance, and clear, appropriate goals and feedback are essential principles for promoting learning for all learners. As evidenced in the above response, active engagement means that learners have an enjoyable earning experience. This approach can facilitate language and literacy development. The second principle discussed in the chapter is cultural relevance which talks about incorporating the cultures of learners and respecting diverse cultures. This principle is vital to assisting learners in maintaining their sense of identity.
