I believe that shadowing provides a great opportunity of gaining first-hand experience into the daily activities of a physician. Therefore, shadowing a doctor will provide me with clinical experience, which includes understanding the realities that take place in a hospital setting. Observing the patient/physician relationship will also give me a good experience that will enable me to learn crucial ways of interacting with patients and responding to their needs. Becker (2010) argues that medical schools require students to be confident when they are joining this profession, and this can be enhanced when a person understands the realities of medicine. I am a medical student from India, and I would want to expand my clinical experience in America.
