For a long time, Germany has a majority of its citizens consuming meat frequently without restrictions. For the first time, recent research proved that more than 40% of Germans had shifted more to a vegetarian diet and reduced their meat consumption. Moreover, about 42% of Germans questioned said their reason for cutting down on meat was to keep a diet that entailed vegan, vegetarian, or flexitarian meaning plant food but incorporated their normal piece of meat beside it (Oltermann). These changes have been critical in the improvement of the overall health of the population.
Another 12.7% of Germans said they did not know why some preferred not to say (Oltermann). Alternatively, France also took part in the survey together with Germany. The response for the reduction of meat consumption in both countries by the respondents was due to their environment and the welfare of their animals.
