In Act 2 of Othello, lago is manipulative. Lago manipulates other characters like Othello by preying and triggering their individual insecurities and doubts he plants seeds of doubts and jealousy in Othello (Fiorato, 2016). Lago implicates the wife of Othello, Desdemona as adulterous by accusing her of having an affair with Cassio. Most importantly Lago makes his implications sound hesitant so that Othello is declined to believe him (Galland, 2012). He schemes to get Cassio drunk. Cassio is kind of a mean drunk and he will end up getting into a fight.
Further, after watching Desdemona and Cassio chit-chat from a distance, he suggests that something naughty is going on between Othello’s wife and Cassio. He implies that there is something tawdry happening between the two and then acts all innocent when Othello insists on the point.
