An Analysis of John Legends

You will analyze the lyrics of a song as poetry. When choosing your song it must be tied to one of these three items: 1. Our course theme: “How can we live the most meaningful and authentic lives possible?” 2. Our further inquiry: Happiness 3. Our focus for the poetry unit: Love Remember to pick songs that have a variety of poetic devices. Annotation and TP-CASTT - Provide a copy of the lyrics. You may download them from an Internet source, type them, or write them out. Be sure to include the performer’s/group’s name and number the lines of the song. You may number every 5th line if that is easier. If you need me to print anything, let me know. - On the copy of the song lyrics annotate the song. This means you need to underline, circle, or somehow note each device that is used. Explanations are encouraged on your annotation! Write out your thought process. Complete a TP-CASTT for your song. You will be handing in your TP-CASTT and annotation formally with your finished paragraph. Informally, there will be a check-in to make sure you are on track.

The Song You And I By John Legend
In its debut, John Legend's "You and I (Nobody in the World)" fights the decent battle for women's rights. Amidst the triumph of his career, John Legend can nevertheless focus on and critique his work in "Conduct," hence why it was the best song to analyze. The poem is about ladies who worry over their own perceived defects even though they are already flawless. Through the lyrics of the poem, Legend declares his undying love for the woman in dispute.
