It is with great sadness that I write this letter to you about the heartbreaking event that took place in Hiroshima in 1945. On 6th August of the same year, the day had begun well, just like any day in summer. The day was sunny and warm and looked very promising. Despite having air-raid warnings earlier that morning, I chose to attend school, so I did. My school was located in Ushita, around 2.5 kilometers from Hiroshima. Everything changed at 8:15 am when the atomic bomb was dropped on the heart of Hiroshima; a blinding light shot across my eye everything turned white. Over and above that, the temperatures spiked to an unexplainable level making our surroundings feel like we were inside a furnace. Everything turned foggy, and the school building collapsed on top of our heads.
Miraculously I was safely covered under the rubbles of what I used to know as my classroom. When the rescue team arrived, a classmate of mine and I were the only survivors rescued from the carnage. At that moment, my whole body was in extreme pain and anguish. When I looked around me, I only so devastation and destruction of biblical scale. I could not fathom what happened to cause this annihilation. I saw bodies of students that we schooled with lying all over the ground, and they were burnt beyond recognition.
