Debates have existed for a long time about whether one can manage to find a high-paying job without a degree or whether joining college is the ideal option for high school graduates. Even though many advocate for joining college, starting a career immediately after high school provides compelling benefits to individuals. This paper argues that entering the workforce immediately after high school graduation can be more advantageous than joining college, reflecting on factors including practical experiences, financial stability, and personal development. First, starting a career immediately after high school graduation can offer immediate financial stability. College education mostly comes with significant costs, such as books, tuition fees, and living expenses (Fishman et al., 8). Many learners are forced to take loans, resulting in significant debt that can take years, if not decades, to repay. Online reports with a slacker lamented that he “spent $60,000 on a worthless degree and no one will hire me” (Freedman and Davis, 6). Such sentiments display how a college degree is not necessary. Entering the workforce immediately after high school allows young people to earn an income, helping them to realize financial independence sooner. College is not an assurance for a job or a better life. Individuals with college degrees are hired in occupations that do not even need college degrees. Moreover, too many learners with a degree have diluted the value of a bachelor's degree.
