Societal Gender Binary
The societal gender binary is the functional classification of gender into two bold forms of masculinity and femininity. Here, society classifies people into two genders: men and women and boys and girls (Putnam and Ashcraft, 336-340). In the societal gender binary, sex, gender, and sexuality are assumed to align. For instance, when a female child is born, society deems that the child will learn to possess female attributes such as a nurturing attitude, accommodative nature, and female appearance. The societal gender binary system may hold the perception and expectation that the female child will dress, behave, and talk in a girl's voice. The societal gender binary expectations may bring forth negative and mixed attitudes such as discrimination and hatred when the child grows up exhibiting attributes different from their perceptions, such as gender variance.

In addition, the role of government policy changes towards intersex individuals has significantly influenced the social perceptions against these people. Another aspect that has made the societal gender binary topic interesting is the awkward assumption concerning sex and gender, especially in job or task assignment/allocation. Such beliefs have left out strong talents and ski...
