Progress in Writing
One of the outcomes I hope to achieve in writing relates to argumentative essays: I hope to improve my ability to present both sides of an argument by providing solid evidence to back up all claims in my writing. The ability to provide a coherent argument for and against an issue so that the audience can form their own opinion is a skill that involves reading and writing. For instance, to find evidence to support both sides of an argument, one must read through various materials and apply research skills to locate the most worthwhile resources. One has to apply their reading skills to identify those materials that focus on facts rather than personal preferences, particularly those that present both sides of the argument equally while capturing the primary points and counterpoints surrounding the issue.

The ability to identify and examine particular features of society or modern culture and so describe how they work together with their impact also requires one to apply both reading and writing skills. For instance, after identifying one aspect of society worth critiquing, one has to read through current literature to understand what is involved, the reasons for its popularity or lack of popularity, and even those embedded or conveyed beliefs in the culture.
