Symphony Concert report Visual & Performing Arts Paper

You must provide a two to four (2-4) page synopsis of the concert. The required items to be addressed within your narrative are listed below.
Your report must be typed, in a font no larger than 12-point and double spaced.
Read the Program Notes for each concert so that you have background information.
Careful editing, proofreading and spelling is expected, although minor errors may not affect your grade.
Be concise and honest. Take notes during the concert to help you remember elements of music that you noticed during the performance. Say something unique and interesting.
Use this structure for all your reports:
Paragraph #1. Introduction (discuss the venue, group and conductor as well as your expectations for the concert)
Paragraph #2. Musical work #1 - state the title of the musical work and then comment on observations you made about the music (using your musical terms) and the quality of performance. Correct spelling of Titles and Composers can be found on the Program or in the Program Notes.
Paragraph #3. Musical work #2 - state the title of the musical work and then comment on observations you made about the music (using your musical terms) and the quality of performance.
(etc.... covering ALL the works on the program*)
Last Paragraph. Summary (discuss your overall impressions about the performers and the performance practices and quality of performance you observed).
*If you do not write about each and every musical work on the concert program, you will receive a significantly lower grade for your report.

Use the terms learned from the Elements of Music and in the discussion forums of music and the orchestra in this course. Many of them apply directly to what you experienced at the concert. Appropriateness and accuracy in usage of the terminology will affect your grade.
Describe any observation you might have made concerning the different sections of the orchestra (bowings for strings, percussion instruments used, etc.), Include the instrumentation of the ensemble (what instruments were included in the group).
Describe the conductor and his/her conducting techniques/patterns, even her mannerisms or how he/she portrayed the spirit of the music during the concert.
The music and any particular element of music that you observed in the performance, Talk about your favorite piece and why you liked it. Speak aesthetically…how did it make you feel?
And finally, provide qualitative observations. Discuss what you heard in terms of quality of the performance.

Symphony Concert Report
Act One of the Symphony Orchestra was conducted on April 15, 2009, at the Carnegie Hall, and the program has 7 selections. The YouTube Symphony Orchestra consists of performers from diverse backgrounds, including professionals and amateurs. American conductor Michael Tilson Thomas conducts and directs the symphony orchestra. The symphony has two flutes and piccolo, two clarinets, two oboes, two bassoons and contrabassoon, four horns, two trumpets, three trombones, timpani, triangle, and strings (YouTube Symphony Orchestra). I expect the performers to reflect on classical music's diversity, where there is a big team behind the orchestra.
The first composition is “Johannes Brahms - Allegro giocoso from Symphony No.4 in E minor, Op. 98” The Symphony No. 4 was composed for the chamber music and there is a continuous variation of motives and the diversity in repetition mode, which makes the music different from composers who relied on the traditional metric square procedures. The music has three movements beginning with Allegro non troppo where there is temporal fluency and melodic figures that follow each other. The other movements are Andante moderato and allegro giocoso. The music work has polyphonic textures where there are various rhythmic shifts and different texture elements, which makes the work less monotonous.
The second musical work, “Lou Harrison - Music from Canticle No. 3” begins with a percussion section. The percussion work is my favorite as it pushes the boundaries by integrating Western and eastern music elements where there are deviations in the melodic and rhythmic lines. Edwin Outwater took over from Thomas and conducted the section. The section is a melodically-based music style, and Harrison reflects his interest in East Asian harmony. The ocarina, which is a terra-cotta flute, was used to produce a quarter-tone melody, where there is an emphasis on order and continuity in the simple melody. There was good coordination even as the section required one or few performers...
