Define the word privacy.

Privacy involves keeping my personal information from 3rd parties (Baase, 2013). Some of the information I consider private includes my social security number, credit card information and medical details.

I understand that privacy involves the freedom to do as I wish (Baase, 2013). In light of the digital age, privacy entails the right to use social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter without my parents checking up on my activities.

How concerned are you about security on the Internet? Please explain.

I am concerned about security on the internet since personal information in the wrong hands can be used for unscrupulous activities (Baase, 2013). For instance, criminals can use a person’s driving license to gain entry into another’s homestead and steal valuables.

I am greatly concerned about security on the internet particularly in light of increasing cases of identity theft. I am worried that individuals can easily access my records and create parallel profiles on social media and eventually jeopardize my credibility.

Do you consider sites recording your Internet activity with your knowledge to be a violation of privacy? Please explain.

No. On the contrary, these sites that seek consent before recording my internet activities are ethical. Through seeking my permission, I am in a position to control the kind of information they access and record. Furthermore, sites that get my consent get the opportunity to understand my habits (Kovacs, 2012). For instance, they can recommend books for me to read or even mutual friends I can connect with.

Although I consider seeking consent as being an ethical thing to do, I still believe that keeping tabs on my internet footprints to be a violation of my privacy. The reason being that I should be able to conduct myself on the internet without any controls.

It is my humble opinion that all sites recording my activity on the internet should seek my consent and failure to which is a grave violation of my privacy. I have noticed that many businesses are continuously engaging in the practice as part of data mining for their marketing initiatives. Similarly, this initiative is also identified as behavioral tracking (Kovacs, 2012). Failure to seek consent is tantamount to stealing data/ private information.
