How does gender inequality impact this issue?
The small-scale women farmers in Kenya have poor access to land and farm inputs while owning two to three acres while relying on subsistence farming (SACDEP). The women are mostly poor, and without access to credit facilities and agricultural know-how, poor crop and animal yields make it hard to make a living from agriculture. Social and gender inequalities result in vulnerable populations, and inaccessibility to resources makes it more difficult to combat poverty and hunger. There is a failure of the development policies to respond to interests of the communities and local agricultural markets. Yet, this would reduce inequality and increase access opportunities to women.
