Introduction
This Leadership Development Plan report seeks to evaluate my leadership capabilities and demonstrate ways of making appropriate adjustments for my future career goals. I was selected to be a class monitor in my high school days. At first, I was not aware I could manage since I felt inadequate as a leader. However, it turned out to be an opportunity for me to learn more about leadership. I remember one instance where I had to engage both students and teachers during a sports meeting. At first, the enthusiasm for signing up before the group activity was not high. However, after communication with both parties, everyone appreciated the essence of group activity and a sense of participation. Eventually, we achieved satisfactory results, where more students joined sports.
I aspire to be a business person running a chain of a convenient stores in the future. I want to become an owner of a business and, at the same time, be the leader of the business. In becoming a business leader, I believe that I stand in a better position to exercise leadership. I want to apply the concepts I have learned to communicate with my team and connect with suppliers. Being a business leader will allow me to establish long term relationships which will offer me a competitive advantage. It would be a pleasure to use the leading frameworks in the marketplace.
Leadership Self-Appraisal
I consider the most vital aspect of my leadership skills as communication, trustworthiness and responsibility. Communication entails conveying information and meaning such that all the concerned parties understand the message from the same meaning (Van Ruler, 2018). One of the ingredients of effective communication is listening. It entails offering the undivided speaker attention. I take time to listen to what people say. Instead of thinking about what to say next, I am patient to listen to what someone is passing across. Because of my excellent listening skills, I manage to understand people better. Additionally, analyzing the message is critical in communication. I take time to think and evaluate any message I receive. Analyzing information is crucial for decoding the intention of the speaker. Moreover, giving feedback is essential in determining if the objectives have been achieved. I like restating what the speaker has said in my words. Through feedback, people get to know whether or not I have understood a message. Because of my excellent communication skills, I have found it easier to interact with people and pass information around.
To become a successful business person, I need to employ transformational leadership. The leadership approach is designed to cause a change in people and social systems. Transformational leadership leads to valuable and positive change in the followers to develop followers into leaders (Korejan & Shahbazi, 2016). The approach enhances the morale of the followers in various ways. As a transformational leader, I would connect the follower’s sense of identity to the business's mission. The employees need to identify with the mission of my business. This can be achieved when I ensure that the employees identify with the organization. The workers should feel a sense of belonging because of my transformational leadership approach. Additionally, transformational leaders are role models to their followers, which inspires them (Steinmann, Klug & Maier, 2018). I would lead as an example where I demonstrate the essence of treating workers well. I would have a strong work ethic to encourage the workers to give more. Furthermore, transformational leadership entails challenging followers to take greater ownership of their tasks. I would encourage every worker to take responsibility. Even where mistakes occur, I would enable workers to come out and acknowledge mistakes and work towards correcting them.

The frameworks and theories discussed in the leadership appraisal are vital for my future development as a business leader. I need to leverage my strong communication skills to address conflicts in the workplace. Conflicts are normal in the workplace and should not be taken negatively (Abiodun, 2014). Individuals keep on raising issues and differing on how to handle them. It is common for colleagues not to understand each other and accept their approach to work.
