Executive Summary
Jelson Industries is a company that offers carrier services to customers. The company has experienced consistent growth as a result of the strategy implemented over the years. Although the strategies implemented have dealt with most of the challenges faced by the company, Jelson still faces some major issues. The issues identified in the report include driver shortages, failure to constantly adapt to regulatory changes, and customer service. The costs that are associated with the regulations are high since the company is required to spend their resources to comply with the changes. The pool of available truck drivers is lower than the company’s ability to keep up with the increase in demand for transport. Jelson also finds it difficult to coordinate the right type of equipment and capacity, know different timelines and retailer requirements, and determine optimized scheduling. Recommended solutions to the issues include the implementation of information technology, developing a regulatory impact analysis model, partnering with the federal authorities to develop a driver training program, and finding a transportation partner who is knowledgeable in the transport carrier service to help improve customer service.

Jelson Industries Transport Carrier Annual Strategy
Introduction
Transportation is a vital element of the logistics process as well as the supply chain, which runs from the provider of the product to the customers. At Jelson Industries, the issues of effective logistics play an important role in their transportation business since the company highly considers the speed and cost of transportation. Most firms view transportation as the most important single element in logistics costs (Ballou, 2004). Jelson therefore realizes the importance of having a transport system that is well structured, to create place utility. Nonetheless, the company transportation strategy has proven less effective since it has failed to respond to the dynamics of the business, its suppliers, customers, and operations. Reason being, the strategies implemented have failed to handle issues such as regulatory changes, driver shortage, and customer service. These issues have been identified after having carried out a SWOT analysis of the company. The report, therefore, seeks to address the issues mentioned by identifying the possible solutions the and recommendations.
Analysis of the Issues
Regulatory Changes
Apart from building facilities for transportation, the government is also in charge of maintaining these facilities. The government’s performance in maintaining these transportation facilities greatly impact companies in the transport industry such as Jelson. The regulations established by the government dwell mostly on the environmental rules, anti-trust regulation, the size and weight of trucks, and transportation safety (Roberts, 2012). Being up to date with the constantly changing rules and regulations set by the federal or state government is a difficult task for Jelson Industries, especially because the rules vary in different states and cities across the nation. Slight changes in the regulations can interrupt the entire operations of the company, and result in huge losses. The costs that are associated with the regulations are also high since the company is required to spend their resources to comply with the changes. For this reason, the issue of regulatory changes has a ranking of 42.7 on the industry concern index (ATRI, 2017). It is therefore important to develop means of constantly staying updated with the regulatory changes. This can be made possible through the implementation of information technology. Information technology can enable the company to take an active lead in ensuring that the changes in regulations made by the federal or state governments are constantly updated. More so, Jelson can develop a regulatory impact analysis model, which can be used to evaluate future costs of regulatory changes. The model will allow the company to approximate the costs and resources needed to comply with the regulations in the future, based on the costs incurred in past regulatory changes.
Driver Shortage
The issue of driver shortage is one that not only affects Jelson industries but other companies in the sector as well. The transport of goods in Jelson depends wholly on the services provided by drivers who are skilled and motivated. However, the pool of available truck drivers is lower than the company’s ability to keep ...
