Peer pressure can benefit students' willingness to invest their time and money into their education. They learn the hard way that peer pressure is most effective when it comes from those with whom one has a lot in common. However, students can be influenced to act or speak inappropriately by their peers. A student's sense of self-worth and relationships with others can take a hit when they are subjected to peer pressure.
From what I have learned, some concrete ways to support students include creating an environment that celebrates and promotes diversity and inclusion and encouraging open dialogue between students and their parents about peer pressure; also, instructing students in effective communication strategies for dealing with challenging peer pressure situations and encouraging students to develop a strong sense of resilience.
