The Ancient Greece Architecture Gallery
One of my memorable moments last semester was when I toured the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. I was excited because it was my first time visiting one of the most diverse and the largest museums with art collections. We arrived early and to my amazement, the art gallery was already filled with art lovers. I felt excited to see groups of young students moving across the gallery. The beautiful building had more than 12,000 pieces of art, dating back from the Neolithic period.
I saw several rooms filled with artifacts ranging from painted vases, life-size statues, made of marble, limestone, bronze, glass, and silver. I wanted to view all the artwork at once since all of them had fascinating stories behind their creation. Some of the images represented Hellenistic artwork included statues of the Greek gods like the Mable head of Athena and portraits of ethnic people showing the diverse nature of the Hellenistic populace (Hemingway & Hemingway, 2007).
One piece that sparked my interest was a Bronze statuette of a veiled, masked dancer representing the Hellenistic artwork. I spent most of my time at Gallery 163 admiring this statuette. What attracted my attention was the complex motion of the female dancer conveyed by the several layers of her dress. The woman had a lightweight mantle over her head (Hemingway & Hemingway, 2007). Her dance movement was conveyed by the position of her arms and legs. Her right arm and leg were stretched out (Hemingway & Hemingway, 2007).
The woman's face is covered by sheers, and the other parts of her body covered by a black large rectangular fabric folded over along the upper edge of the waist and the overfold reaching her waist (Hemingway & Hemingway, 2007)....
