The study of the evolution of man presents Homo sapiens as one of the most critical stages in human development. With other species being extinct, Homos sapiens emerges as the only surviving species of human, thanks to the existence of Homo sapiens sapiens, which is its subspecies. Galway-Witham and Stringer (2018) acknowledge this evolution, hinting the possibilities that they may have existed as early as 300,000 ago. In this regard, it is worth noting that there is the element of distinguishing features and abilities between Homo sapiens and their predecessors, which may have contributed to their longer lifespan.
According to Stringer (2018), there was a significant difference in the physique of Neanderthals compared to the Homo sapiens. The latter (Homo sapiens) had a leaner body, a quality which gave them an advantage that was lacking among their predecessors. This feature came in handy in enabling them to withstand winters and food problems, especially during famine. Additionally, there were able to sustain a larger population, which helped to guarantee their survival and continued generation.
