After watching the video, I was surprised that the healthcare cost in the United States is so high due to overcharging. The information in the video provides a perspective I have never thought of before. It is also true to assume that most Americans may not be aware of the reason why the cost of healthcare is too high. Another thought that came to my mind is that if the cost of healthcare is to become affordable, there must be a change in how the pricing and charging of hospital bills is done. What surprised me the most was the concept of the chargemaster. Hospitals have a chargemaster determining the cost of various healthcare services (truTV, 2017). It is also intriguing that every hospital has its unique chargemaster. I was also surprised to learn that the insurance company colluded with hospitals to raise the cost of healthcare.
