Teaching Philosophy
My philosophy comprises constantly acquiring knowledge and adjusting to the student’s needs. It is centered on Boyer’s Model of Scholarship (BMS). The BMS is anchored on creating favorable environments for learners and fostering learner-focused pedagogy. The BMS constitutes of the following stages:
Discovery Phase
Discovery implies raising awareness and insight via traditional research as researchers’ educators must establish new information and investigate learners. Insights are acquired in formal education and readings. Pursuing my Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN), networking with my peers in other companies, and dynamic membership and partaking in nursing organizations workshops are vital in the discovery stage. My devotion to fostering my education is apparent in my quest for MSN and membership in the American Academy of Neurology (AAN).
Integration
This stage entails assisting learners, society, and peers in incorporating and using healthcare data, investigation, and insight into health promotion and illness deterrence. During my practicum, learners worked on group projects which implied that I divided the assignments into sections. Every learner worked on individual segments and then merged them at the project’s conclusion. I discovered that it was convenient for me when implementing the traditional approach in the class. Integration can be attained with robust non-verbal communication capabilities via emails and online class discussion boards. In addition, I was privileged to work with a knowledgeable nurse educator. I spent one hundred and fifty hours with her as my mentor, studying to become a nurse educator while cooperating with other nurse educators (Yoost & Crawford, 2021). I also had a chance to assist in designing and delivering course materials for her classes. Illustrations of these classes were simulation labs, ventilators, and sternotomy. In addition, I made a PowerPoint presentation on stroke for surgical nurses to get their annual mandatory tutoring. The presentation became a test for nurses to take.
Application
This stage entails educators fostering the application of exploration into clinical practice. I precept nursing learners constantly. This has allowed me to nurture my teaching and communication abilities with learners.
Teaching
This phase entails applying academic meticulousness to the teaching practice. During my practicum, I worked with nurses from all education levels and nursing types. Through helping my preceptor create and re-design classes that she was meant to teach, devising goals and test materials, and being allowed to support her while tutoring some of the didactic segments myself (Miles & Scott, 2019).
