Parkinson’s disease (PD) is an enduring and progressive neurological illness characterized by rest tremor, postural instability, rigidity, and bradykinesia. In addition, many individuals with PD develop non-motor clinical manifestations such as cognitive impairment and behavioral changes. The trajectory of PD patients over time remains increasingly variable, with some individuals demonstrating a relatively benign course while others progress quickly to disability. The emergent intra-individual and inter-individual variability in PD expression results in diagnosis errors, particularly early in the disease, thus prompting the need for a more personalized approach to prognostication and management (Severson et al., 2021). According to Hoehn and Yahr, the natural course of progression for PD is categorized into five stages.
