Introduction Any group of people is often in need of a singular person who will guide them through an ordeal related to the purpose that brought them together. The common goal that they all would like to achieve is usually determined by the vision and directive that their superior individual holds for all of them. The act of having this individual guiding them through this process is known as leadership and it is through it that the greatest civilizations in the world have come to being (Chong & Wolf, 2010). Without the existence of leadership, most people would be lost since they would have no direction on what to do. Leadership is necessary in every field of people’s lives such as childhood development and the professions that all adults participate in. Leadership therefore holds an important role in people’s lives since it is the driving force of people’s will to work together whenever the need arises. This paper sets out to describe what leadership is and all that it entails in comparison to some certain leaders. Leadership Leadership can be summarized as the act of equipping, training, selecting and influencing one person or a group of people who have diverse abilities or skills to achieve a common purpose. The purpose of the coming together of the people involved has to be as a result of the inclusion of their efforts in the delivery of the required goals by the institutions in which they work (Fairhurst & Connaughton, 2014). A leader helps a group of individuals to achieve the intended goals through giving them a vision of how he/she would want things to be within an organization. The nature of the organizations may vary from the different fields of profession that they have. The followers’ willingness to listen and follow the leader has to be aligned with their values and beliefs and moral values. To be influential, the leader has to appeal to their character through his/her credible actions and integrity. Visions formed by the leader have to be related to the future projections of certain aspects of the organization in which he/she works. The steps taken to implement the vision have to be planned in accordance to the present trends of the field of profession in which he/she works and at the same time take into account the effects that they will have on the future development of the field. Through taking this into account, the leader prepares his followers for the future development that the organization may experience. He also facilitates their capacity to handle any eventualities that they may have difficulties facing in case they get confused about any of the matters that they may encounter along the way (Burian, Burian, Francis, & Pieffer, 2014).
