Interview Assignment
Advanced professional nurses (APNs) are medical staff with a higher level of training above those of registered nurses (RN). Along with an extended master’s program in nursing, APNs undergo extensive clinical rotations in specialty fields and patient care. The focus of this paper is to explore the role of an APN in-depth as she functions within a healthcare institution employed.
A scheduled interview with an advanced professional nurse was deemed a practical approach to get first-hand n=information on the roles, challenges, and limitations that professionals experience in their area of practice. Due to convenience issues, a telephone interview was conducted with a practicing APRN nurse. Ashton Marie Chase is a nurse practitioner in Clinica Sierra Vista, Bakersfield- California. The nurse specializes as a family nurse practitioner and a primary caregiver in a popular community health center. Due to her broad expertise and experience, she stands suitable to respond to the interview questions below that cover the role of APN.
Q1. What is the mission of the healthcare organization you work for?
The mission of Clinica Sierra Vista is to provide quality, comprehensive, preventable, and primary healthcare services at efficient costs to underprivileged and underserved populations. The organization serves counties like Fresno and Kern, where members experience difficulties paying or seeking necessary services. As an FNP, I work hard to see the achievement of the facility’s mission by establishing positive relationships with families and patients. In availing holistic care, patients feel welcome and ready to seek help when in need.
Q2. How do you carry out the agency’s vision and goal?
The nurses replied that the organization’s vision is to be a reliable and prominent caregiver that meets the healthcare needs of the entire community served through structured wellness and programs. The nurse said she strives to attain that by ensuring the best quality services in the work area. Clinica Sierra Vista’s goal is to offer quality care to all, and medical staff like Chase follow the path by ensuring safe and quality services to patients or families.
Q3. How do you meet your professional expectations?
As an FNP, Chase said there are patients attending to her continuum of care. With skills or knowledge gained through graduate training, care is offered to all individuals across the lifespan, from prenatal to adulthood stage. From research and theoretical work, FNP are trained to give primary care to patients, from newborns to those over 65 years, by assessing, diagnosing, and treating (Maier et al., 2018). By comparison, Chase executes a similar role as an advanced FNP professional. However, an FNP can practice across numerous nurse specialties like adults, family, neonatal, pediatrics, oncology, and women’s health in the practice setting. Mainly, the interviewee confirmed practicing in the family specialty.
Q4. Are there adequate federal health policies to empower APN professionals?
Regrading health policy issues in the care setting, the interviewee responded that there are no sufficient regulations to empower nurses despite the Affordable Care Act relying on APRN staff to solve the primary healthcare burden.
