Infographic Activity Guidelines Be sure to review best practices for infographics along with student examples in Blackboard before beginning this assignment. This infographic must look professional. Directions: • Audience: Incoming university freshman; therefore, high school seniors, who are undecided about a major. • Purpose: To provide information to allow new students to decide on a major or even jobs that might interest them—exploring options, seeing different viewpoints, considering possibilities, or thinking about goals and values. Deciding on a major is complicated because of longer-term impacts. Some students are unsure or hesitant. • Theme: Design a particular theme (background) for your infographic that relates to your declared major. Professional Business. • Research any topic within your career field (major) to create your infographic—job searches, information from coursework, news articles, or anything relevant to the purpose and audience. For instance, you might discuss what jobs are available, courses offered, salary (location is a must), controversial topics (3+) in current news or a combination. • You must include SHSU (some version of this logo—it must be apparent that these students are going to major at this school). You must include the major name (otherwise this infographic is pointless). I would highly suggest listing some courses they can take. • Include 8+ items on your infographic—images/text. Infographics contain a lot of information! • Format: One 11x14 PowerPoint. A formatted infographic template may be used, such as those found in Canva, but make sure the measurements are correct • Images: Choose graphics and images that symbolize the career field and your chosen theme. No citations are needed for graphics. Try to use copyright free/public domain websites when possible. Your infographic should be visibly pleasing to your viewing audience. REMINDER: You are not required to cite images for this activity. • Citations: List where your data/text information comes from. With an infographic, you have choices for citations of materials: include the sources within the statistics explanation on the infographic, using footnotes, or some other creative approach you design. Or, you should use a complete MLA or APA citations and have them available outside of the infographic. These citations must be on another document. • Font/Text: No paragraphs are allowed. Use bullets, etc… where applicable. Use direct quotes. Let the images/symbols and data/numbers inform your audience. Be sure your information is easy to read and interpret. • Be sure your name is on the assignment; must be insignificant (it should blend in) and small (8- 9pt). • Check the due date before submitting your assignment to Blackboard. • This infographic activity is included in the Final Exam (Google Sites portfolio
