Assessment 2
Develop an Educational Resource Kit that develops an area of the Arts for implementation in a primary classroom. Write an individual reflection on own professional learning from the experience.
An Educational Resource Kit is a collection of teaching and learning tools designed to support a primary classroom Arts unit. It includes teacher, student, assessment, digital, and differentiated resources that build skills, creativity, and understanding in a chosen Arts area.
Weighting: 40%
Length and/or format: 2000 words (1000 for each arts area - Drama and Dance
Purpose: To demonstrate professional learning and application of knowledge of teaching in the Arts areas
Assessment criteria: You will be assessed on the following criteria:
The extent to which you:
Purposefully and critically select resources to align with the needs of the chosen content descriptor and to address the learning outcomes identified
Critique a range of age-appropriate pedagogies and teaching strategies appropriate to the resources.
Critique and assess curriculum and pedagogical choices in line with how children in a Year 3-4 classroom learn in the Arts. This may include the use of digital technology, and which engages diverse learners in authentic Arts practice and develop their skills and conceptual understanding.
Analyse what you have learned from this process: Identify one strength, and one area which you will continue to develop to build your skills and confidence.
Adhere to academic conventions and use APA 7th Ed referencing. A minimum of 10 well-chosen, relevant and recent references to support any claims made, in addition to referencing the textbook, Australian Professional Standards for Teaching and the curriculum is required for an at standard/pass mark on this task.
Most importantly is to note that this task is not a lesson plan. You will choose content descriptors and design a task to achieve learning in that descriptor.
Elaboration and Explanation:
You are required to develop a resources kit for the art areas Drama and Dance, and appropriate for students in Year 3 or 4. You are then to write a rationale and justification for your kit.
NOTE: Both the ACARA Curriculum and the NESA Creative Arts K-6 syllabus are written in two-year bands. In your assessment, you must stipulate which year level you are planning for. Year 3 OR Year 4. CHOOSE ONE ONLY.
The most important part is the reflection.
What you have to do:
Part 1. Create The Resource Kit.
This is not a lesson plan
Identify the content descriptors that each resource will address
Your resource kit will be aimed at students in Year 3 OR Year 4
It must include six (6) resources. Three (3) for Drama and 3 for Dance
Resource Kit Specifics.
The resources included in your resource kit must meet the following requirements, but you can apply these requirements in any combination you wish.
One resource must be an assessment resource
One resource must be for teacher use
Two resources must be for student use
One resource must be an interactive digital resource e.g. VR Goggles/learning
One resource must be a differentiated resource (i.e., the original and the differentiated resource must be included)
Additionally, one of the above resources must be created by you, and one of them must be created by generative AI. You MUST indicate where AI has been used to generate this resource in the assessment task response. No additional use of AI is permitted in this task.
NOTE: For the purpose of this task, equipment is not considered a resource (e.g., basic classroom equipment like paint brushed, data projector, piano, mirrors etc).
Take photographs or screenshots of each resource and insert these images into your submission to create the kit. If a part of your resource kit includes a worksheet (or any word-based document), you must include it as an appendix. The images must be annotated and align with content descriptors and rationale. Hyperlinks to any online digital resources must be included.
Part 2. Rationale and Justification– (a) Should demonstrate your understanding of how children learn in the arts and (b) describe how the choice of items in the resource kit would assist you in teaching the concept and addressing the content descriptors. The resources should:
be appropriate for Year 3 or 4 and develop their skills and conceptual understanding
align with the identified learning outcomes of the curriculum (include codes)
include the pedagogical approach, teaching strategies and the theoretical learning framework that underpins the ideas
be able to be adjusted for two (2) forms of student diversity (The two Case Study children from the list - Sammi and Minsandi)
would engage the learners in authentic Arts practice
be supported with reference to relevant literature
Case Study 9 - Minsandi
Minsandi is a new student who has just started at this school in the middle of the term. They have recently moved to Australia with their family and have a very limited ability to speak and understand English. They have difficulty making friends and seem withdrawn in class.
Case Study 6 - Sammi
Sammi just recently won an international competition. They have been learning their cultural instrument (the sarangi) since they were five years old. The family is very heavily involved with their cultural community and regularly participate in the music and dance activities associated with festivals and ceremonies.
Part 3. Personal Analyses
What you have learned from this process:
identify one strength, and one area which you will continue to develop to build your skills and confidence.
What you have to submit:
The rationale and justification which includes resource kit images
The references (Academic references are different to listing resources)
An appendix if you have text-based items in the resource kit. The appendix does not contribute to the word count.
I have attached the marking rubric, a submission checklist and an example layout for clarity on the task.

Part 2 - Rationale & Justification
DANCE (YEAR 3 FOCUS)
For this resource kit, the focus is on Year 3 students engaging in dance through exploration, improvisation, and performance in line with the NESA Creative Arts K–6 syllabus (Stage 2) and ACARA Dance curriculum (NSW Curriculum, 2025; ACARA, 2025). The chosen outcomes are:
NESA: CA2-DAN-01 (composes and performs dance sequences that communicate ideas) and CA2-DAN-02 (recognizes the cultural significance of dance) (NSW Curriculum, 2024).
ACARA: AC9ADA4C01 (use the elements of dance to choreograph), AC9ADA4D01 (experiment with fundamental movement skills and dance elements), AC9ADA4E02 (explore how First Nations Australians use dance to communicate) (ACARA, 2025).
Justification of Resources
The Dance Stimulus Cards support Year 3 students’ ability to create and structure dance sequences by engaging their imagination and encouraging a response to visual or tactile prompts (NSW Curriculum, 2025). Rooted in constructivist pedagogy, these cards foster student-led meaning-making, enabling them to build conceptual understanding of dance elements such as shape, space, and dynamics (Thahirah & Budiman, 2023). They also facilitate multimodal learning, supporting students who require concrete stimuli to initiate creative movement. For Sammi, the resource offers opportunities to incorporate her cultural experiences into movement responses, while Minsandi can use non-verbal expression as a scaffold for participation despite limited English proficiency. Additionally, this resource encourages collaborative problem-solving as students negotiate how individual ideas translate into collective movement, strengthening teamwork and communication.
The Music and Rhythm Variation Toolkit builds rhythmic awareness and kinesthetic understanding by linking dance practice to auditory stimuli. Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory supports this approach, as students internalise rhythm and tempo through collaborative practice and scaffolded teacher guidance (Wibowo et al., 2025). This resource also reflects authentic dance practice, where rhythm and music are foundational to choreography. Adaptations have involved offering Sammi the chance to add rhythmic patterns of her sarangi traditions, cultural inclusiveness and Minsandi enjoys simplified rhythms and peer modelling to facilitate joining group performance. A variety of rhythmic traditions is also likely to expand the students appreciation of the world music-dance relationships, contributing to intercultural competence and innovation.
The First Nations Dance Protocols and Practice Resource promotes awareness of the culture, which fits the AC9ADA4E02 standard because of the focus on respect to the Indigenous knowledge systems. The idea of basing dance in cultural context is in line with the art education models that perceive arts as a means to identity and community (Paorisankhunnakorn et al., 2023). This resource that is teacher facilitated contains the protocols that would allow exploration to be respectful, and students would have access to the real Indigenous practices via curated examples. It helps Sammi to realise cross-cultural relations between her cultural background and the Aboriginal traditions, and offers Minsandi exposure to culturally rich non-verbal communication that can create a sense of belonging. The process does not only enhance cultural literacy, but it also makes the students to realize the ethical duty of learning and representation of the cultural practices.
All these dance resources form technical skills, creativity as well as cultural literacy. They touch on curriculum outcomes, using constructivist and sociocultural pedagogies, and providing multimodal and differentiated ways of entry to various learners. Combining improvisation, formal choreography and cultural procedures will make learning experiences authentic and balanced to provide students with expressive and reflective abilities.
