Engaging to Active Listening to Remove the Barrier to Communication

Being able to communicate effectively is extremely important. Without effective communication, no matter the other skills that are brought to the table, success will be hard to come by. Being in operations, how I introduce new concepts, policy changes or any other notices can effect how coworkers interpret them. Interpersonal communication skills can make a person successful in situations where they are still learning. It will help them ask questions effectively, understand what’s happening and interpret the information. Communication skills are key to success when working in any type of business.
Currently, we have a leadership team that consists of 4 women. I meet with them occasionally but mostly I have 1 on 1’s with the CEO, who meets with the LT collectively. Recently, we did a company rebrand which consisted of a lot of work. Being the only person in operations, I needed to rebrand all of our policies, employee handbook, templates and other documents. The CEO mentioned to me that we should hire a temp admin to help rebrand the documents so I wouldn’t spend a ton of time on it. I agreed and began working with HR on a job description, which we finalized. Then I received notice that the LT was not onboard with the temp admin and I needed to clarify why we needed one. I immediately called the CEO flagging this and stating that this was a poor process for decision making and communication. I asked if they could clarify what my process for “yes” is and noted that I have wasted many hours helping with the job description and getting everything together for the admin to start. I currently do not have a solution to the communication flow other than they recognize there is one and it needs to be clarified.
