Part 1
The selected romantic film is The big sick, directed by Michael Showalter and made on January 20, 2017 (Showalter, 2017). My selection is influenced by my view on the movie being hilarious. It has captivated the hearts of many viewers and won quite a number of awards such as Academy awards and movies for grownups awards. The parents of Kumail unite him with Pakistani women in the bid to make him follow their path of arranged marriages to his disinterest. He meets Emily, and when they start a relationship, he hides it from his parents. However, they break up after she finds out about the Pakistan women. Later, Emily goes into a coma, and Kumail stays with her and meets her parents. When she recovers, Kumail moves to New York. Emily heckles Kumail during a performance, but they rekindled their love and lived happily after overcoming their cultural differences. The comedy has a love interest that is not expected as Kumail knew his parents would not approve of it. The grand gesture of Kumail not leaving Emily in a coma is a characteristic of romantic comedy. These comedy types are popular because they are entertaining to watch, match real-life situations of romance, and come with a lesson for the viewers.
