Fire at Sea, has a been an award-winning film at a number of prestigious festivals. These includes the Berlin Film Festival Golden Bear and European Film Award. The film director Gianfranco Rosi is Italian and one of the most recognized directors at the moment. The film is set on a small Sicilian Island of Lampedusa. This is an island that thousands of African refugees are risking their lives to reach as they flee from their war-torn nations especially in the Middle East. While it may have started off a simple project, the film has generated massive followings, within the social circles and even in the political arenas. It is a film that is creating awareness at a significant rate, relative to the plight of the immigrants as they risk their lives and that of their loved ones in such of hope and peace.
