Unifying Elements of Vertov’s Documentary
The Man with a Movie Camera, a documentary that follows the filming of a documentary, involves several elements that unify the entire film. It is a classic illustration of what film enthusiasts refer to as a “city symphony”. This form creates an impressionistic montage of the elements of urban life, effectively showing Vertov’s vision in a musical, abstract, and incidentally erotic manner.
