In Exile Film Review
In Exile mainly focus on four Myanmar migrant workers in their constant struggle for survival as they work in harsh conditions at sugarcane and corn plantations in Thailand (Aung 7). The setting of the film is during the 2010 general election as it captures the aftermath of the outbreak of riots between the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army and the Tatmadaw in the Kayin State of Myanmar. This led to thousands of scared refugees fleeing for safety across the border to Thailand (Aung 12).
In the film, Ma Cho and Ko Zaw is a hopeless couple that cannot see the possibility of ever returning to their homeland. Also, the film also depicts Kyaw Moe Win, a twelve-year-old boy who has dreams of going back to school in his home country (Aung 7). Myint Thein is portrayed in the film as a restless migrant worker that went as far as Dubai in search for work and prosperity but only ended up in more hardship in Thailand.
The seventy-two-minute long documentary highlights the journeys into the minds and hearts of these individuals that have fled from the struggl...
