Your Name Course and Section Professor’s Name March 18, 2024 Analysis Blog Many ideas crossed my mind when I reflected on the blaxploitationthemed film, particularly about possession and how it's portrayed in black horror. Imagining that race is widely used to portray creatures of horror fiction characters makes me think badly of these producers. My understanding of racism in movies has changed due to this genre's investigation; it now questions conventional wisdom and the conventions of the film business. What I thought to be expected before has made me think differently as I learned about the marginalization of black women in film. One film I have seen is "Abby," which highlights the blaxploitation horror film because it juxtaposes themes like identity and femininity, commonly known as narrative possessions in the black community. The film is directed by William Gidler. The portrayal of being possessed through the lens of a black woman in the film has become a gateway for a new perspective to shine through the complexities of race and dominance. I witnessed Abby's struggle with her inner demons in the film amidst societal expectations, which was a poignant reminder of the intersectionality of oppression.
