THE FUTURE OF CRYPTOGRAPHY

Cryptography
The advancements made in the field of cryptography are significant, but there are some limitations to it. Encryption has succeeded in protecting access to information by unauthorized users, but does not address all the security problems and threats.
Presently, the world of cryptography is moving towards the possibility of crypto anarchy, where encryption algorithms are present and are likely to be abused. These encrypted messages may contain drugs details, child pornography and terrorism (Franck, 2010). This may lead to the abuse of this very important technology.
As a solution to the above problem, the use of key escrow may be employed in future. The aim of this method is to make a strong encryption with the possibility of emergency decryption capability. This is achieved by linking encrypted data to a data recovery key which will help in decryption (Franck, 2010). This will be very useful for investigating and police authorities in tackling modern crime.
Another alternative that can be used in future is weak encryption. This is a cheap way of ensuring that data that is not of high security level is protected. However, this has a disadvantage over the escrow because it can easily be attacked. In addition, link encryption could be used in future, where encryption is between network nodes but not across nodes. This means that a user can regulate what is coming into his device without the third party having to do any encryption at all. The disadvantage here is that plain text data is exposed and this could jeopardize the security of the data (Franck, 2010).
In conclusion, the problem of crypto anarchy is real and cannot be avoided. It is therefore important for research to be done by relevant authorities to adopt the above methods to ensure that the world of cryptography remains releva...
