Challenges facing homeland security in the next year
One major challenge facing homeland security in the next year is the threat of bio-threats, including infectious diseases and bio-weapons. The rapid spread of COVID-19 has highlighted the need for improved monitoring and response systems to prevent the spread of such diseases. Bio-weapons, such as anthrax or smallpox, also pose a significant threat to national security and require effective detection and defense measures. Homeland security needs to have the necessary resources and protocols to effectively identify and mitigate these types of threats to protect public health and safety (Erwin & Tadjdeh, 2012). Ensuring the readiness and resilience of our public health and emergency response systems is crucial in facing these challenges.
The threat of nuclear weapons is also a significant concern for homeland security, as the consequences of their use can be devastating. One of the challenges in addressing this threat is detecting and defending against nuclear weapons, mainly underground or covertly developed. Traditional methods, such as missile defense systems, may not be effective in these cases (Erwin & Tadjdeh, 2012). The development of more advanced technologies and tactics will be necessary to detect and defend against the threat of nuclear weapons effectively.
