Background: There are always correlations between crime rates and people's living standards, family settings, and environment, and rates of crime are higher among people from low-income backgrounds. Also, there are psychological factors that relate to mental illnesses that are not treated, even violence that an individual has been exposed to. Socioeconomic Factors Poverty and Unemployment Lack of jobs or poverty can be attributed to crime. Some people who live in shanty houses barely get anything in terms of facilities, and these are some of the people who engage in criminal activities in order to feed themselves.
