How Music Matters to Me
In a short essay of at least 400 words, answer the prompt: How does music matter to you? Consider your personal relationship with music and how your musical experiences intersect with the culture around you. Your response should include all of the following:

How Music Matters to Me
Music has existed in the world for a very long time. It defines a people’s way of life, culture and social structure. It preserves a people’s heritage, unites society, influences fashion and defines how people celebrate. On a personal level, music significantly influences a bigger part of my life. I have a candid relationship with it because music has defined my past and the present and is still shaping my future.
I live in a metropolitan society where people have various tastes in music. The youths like a different genre from the elderly, and different cultures have different music genres they like. Until less than five years ago, pop music was the favorite genre among the youths in the United States. The preference for pop music dropped, and most youths now like hip hop/rap. I am an active member of this generation, but my preference is still pop music.
I like pop music because it appeals to a wide audience. Unlike other genres that only appeal to a specific audience, pop music appeals to people from various ethnic and cultural backgrounds. This feature of pop music perfectly fits my background and extensively the larger American culture. America is a metropolitan society with many cultures making pop music a uniting factor because it appeals to a wider audience.
Pop music is also easy to dance to. I like dancing, and listening to pop music motivates me to dance more. The motivation to dance comes from the America Got Talent show, where people showcase their talents, including dan...
