Texting has been cited as having serious implications on the activities of students within a learning setup. In the article, there are several issues raised therein concerning students failing to observe basic grammar due to texting. Teachers complain that students might end up transferring the communication style that they use in texting back to the learning environment. They forget to apply basic grammar rules such as proper punctuation and capitalization. The author, Michaela Cullington, provides a detailed analysis of the effects of texting on students. In what she terms text lingo, Cullington talks about complaints from teachers about students who use short forms in their writing, such as 'cuz' for because (2015, p. 367).
