During the postclassical period, there was an increase in interregional trade. As a result, there was exceptional growth in wealth and improved cultural exchanges between regions. Moreover, it was during this period that innovations and new technologies emerged, which enhanced the commercial networks. One of the major result of interregional trade increase was growth in infrastructure, particularly innovations in transportation and updated commercial practices (Freeman-Pedia, n.d.). This increased the volume in trade and expanded the geographical ranges by creating new trade routes.
During this period, there was also an increase in the distrubution of luxury products, such as silk, porcelain, exotic animals, precious metals, and slaves. The use of the compass also emerged during the era. This has a direct impact on the creation of new trade routes as navigators utilized these technologies.
