PLEASE USE THE TRADITIONS AND ENCOUNTERS BY JERRY H. BENTELY AND HERBERT F. ZIEGLER A GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE ON THE PAST FIFTH EDITION ONLY - NO OTHER BOOK BUT THIS ONE PLEASE PLEASE THE FOLLOW INSTRUCTION 1. Discussion 1: Classical Civilizations For this question, review Bentley's discussion of classical civilizations on pages 128-129. Based on that definition compare any two of the classical civilizations (Persia, Greece, or Rome; all within the 500 BCE to 500 CE era) in regards to one of the issues that Bentley argues that classical era civilizations faced. These issues include: their religious beliefs and their impact on society, how they administered large empires, how they organized their military to deal with threats from outsiders (often people who were not part of a great empire), how they promoted economic growth and stability while also ensuring that the rich were not too rich and the poor were not too poor, and how they funded the central governments growing bureaucratic system as well as the ever expanding militaries required by large empires. Remember that you only have to compare two classical empires in terms of one of these issues, not all of them on all of the issues. In your answers, do not quote out of Bentley and Ziegler. If you do that, it seems like your answer is not an original thought. Instead just paraphrase the facts from Bentley and Ziegler and cite the page numbers. Not quoting the Bentley and Ziegler text is a big thing on the midterm and final papers, so work now on learning how to paraphrase their ideas into your own words.
