France and Algeria have a complex relationship when it comes to the context of curriculum and education. The relationship had been manifested since the 19th century in the colonial period until Algeria obtained its independence. The educational system in Algeria had been impacted immensely by French policies and ideologies. In this paper, we examine the curriculum implemented by the French in Algerian schools and show how the French ideas and values reflect.
The French ensured the curriculum system imposed on the Algerians to assimilate their cultural values, ideologies, and language. The Algerians would have to be dependent on France and remain loyal to their authority by having an inferiority complex. The French emphasized teaching French in the Algerian schools as a way of erasing the Algerian culture and assimilating theirs. The main languages
