Reflection on Creative Non-Fiction: Questions and Answers Erika Pinter ENG/240 Dr. Kimberly Lockwood September 16, 2019 Reflection on Creative Non-Fiction: Questions and Answers Interviewer: Hello, how are you today? Student: Hello, I am doing just fine. How about you? Interviewer: I am fine as well. Thank you for availing yourself. Student: Thank you for having me. Interviewer: Normally, death is a subject that many people tend to shy away from. What inspired you to write about death? Student: Many people avoid the subject of death because it can bring up painful or uncomfortable emotions. What inspired me to write about death is the fact that every one of us will experience the loss of a loved one at some point in our lives. And, talking about death more openly can show people that it is not as scary as we have been socialized to believe. Interviewer: Can you explain the circumstances surrounding your father’s death? Student: My father had been suffering from dementia for almost a decade. This impacted his ability to perform day-to-day activities and caused a decline in his rational thinking. However, he did not pass away as a result of the dementia. He passed away from lung cancer, which was a shock to my family and me since he had not smoked for over twenty-five years. Interviewer: I am so sorry to hear about that, my deepest condolences. Student: Thank you. Interviewer: What would you say is the greatest lesson you learned from your father’s illness and eventual demise? Student: The greatest lesson I have learned is the importance of telling your loved ones that you love them. Do not ever let your loved ones wonder how you feel.
