The use of Family talk and then family classification
Tan was born in 1952 in California. He is a person who cannot speak much in English language rather; he gives his personal opinion. He states that English has become the language of intimacy, a different sort of English that relates to family talk. In this line, while living in the world full of uncertainty, it is a nobler idea than ever to always treat our families at the center of our lives and most importantly, they are our top priorities in our lives. The reason why the mother first gave the family talk, then followed by their classification is because she wanted to show that the family is in the center of their lives. Family matters are more important as compared to their classification. Additionally, the use of family talks was used to attract the youngster's attention before giving them their respective classifications. Additionally, the family talks are what the writer grew up with.
Tan uses family talks to proclaim to the youngster the responsibilities of parents in a family set up. For example a husband and a wife have the responsibility to care for their children and to love them, and also to love each other. With such a family talk the youngster's attention was drawn to what the mother was saying. Additionally, her mother does not understand English well, and she used expressive command English to make the daughter understand what she was saying. This makes the daughter to understand her mother with ease.
The use of “stages” instead of “types” or “kinds”
Ephron gives the six stages of e-mail which include; infatuation, clarification, confusion, disenchantment, accommodation, and death. She is such as humorous writer and romantic comedian as seen in the way she is explaining the stages of e-mail. The writer could have various terms to classify the “stages” such as types, or kinds, however, she chooses to use the term stages. The word “stages” is more formal and operational as compared to “type” or “kinds”. Though they can be used interchangeably, she used the word “stages” to create a clear picture of the development to her topic.
Additionally, the term “Stages” is clear to the audience since it directly shows the point or a period of development and has been used to show the state of “well being”. The terms “kind” and “types” when used does not depict the series of event in the classification system as can be deployed by the term “s...
