WHAT IS NEWS?
A news article in order to be classified as news worthy it has to have certain outstanding elements; proximity, prominence, consequence, human interest and timeliness. Most of the articles try to cover all this elements but only the best writers manage.
The definition of timeliness is something happening now and will affect the people presently.
Proximity is the availability of certain things to certain parts without necessarily them struggling for it to be there.
Prominence is the ability of the topic being discussed in the news article to be outstanding in the target audience.
Consequence can be said to be the ability of the article to gather feedback from the directly affected, the mildly affected and the not affected at all.
Human interest is the last element and it means the ability of an article to provoke human emotion because it deals with a sensitive issue and affects everyday`s activities.
We will review a news article by Hawaiian press. The article is about the Yum fast food company that runs several outlets; Pizza Hut, Long John, Taco Bell and KFC. This company is lobbying for changes in the regulations that would allow buyers to buy prepared fast foods with food stamps.
