Student’s Name Professor Course Date Ethics Personal Statement Ethics are essential in all aspects of life. Our everyday life is made up of constant dilemmas and situations that require us to choose between right and wrong. Every individual should be responsible for their actions and behavior since such actions are likely to influence the people around them. Having moral standards helps a person to distinguish between what is right and wrong, and this act is guided by ethics. This discussion seeks to describe ethics and its importance in the workplaces and the general society. Personal Ethics can be defined as the principles that guide a human being into doing what is right. People are constantly required to make choices whenever they find themselves in certain situations. Such situations include choosing whether to pay taxes, whether to cheat in an exam or opt to study, or whether to forge a signature from a client to please your boss. Ethics have helped me to make the right decisions in various circumstances, such as to avoid cheating exams, to pay my bills rather than ignore them, following rather than skipping the queue in places that offer public services, and even when posting photos online or commenting in conversations. Our morality is determined by the choices we make when faced with these and many other circumstances, and ethics help us to determine which decision is right and wrong. Thus, ethics is an internal set of rules that guide our choices. Career Ethics are applied in workplaces in many ways. Companies present policies and rules to employees that guide them on how to carry out their duties and also guides their behavior in the workplace. For instance, a majority of the companies I have visited have policies that discourage employees from smoking in the offices and other enclosed spaces. Also, some companies have policies that di...
