There is no doubt as to the role of technology in spearheading civilization in the 21st Century. Along these lines lie advancement in military weaponry. The United States Department of Defense through the Defense Advanced Research Projects (DARPA) has ensured that national security is never compromised. To this end, the agency has actualized the Insect Allies project, which is earmarked as “the strangest and most cutting-edge research in the world” (Baron). Lately, Insect Allies has gained attention. First, the project aims at creating genetically modified insects with the capabilities of delivering viruses to plants. Onwards, plants received new genes from the viruses that enable them to be more resistant to human interferences and more specifically, climate change.
However, one cannot disregard the fact that these are possible avenues for the decimation of an entire community’s food supply or even millions of people for that case. In hindsight, it appears to be a biological weapon and could provoke other nations to establish related technologies in defense. This hypothetical situation raises major ethical concerns.

Over recent times, Facebook has remained on the lips of all concerned stakeholders and more so, after the 2016 United States presidential elections. Initially, Facebook was created as a neutral platform where individuals would connect and communicate with others on whatever they wished. During these times, its current chief executive officer, Mark Zuckerberg, referred to as a “social utility” (Hughes). However, since the Cambridge Analytica scandal came into the limelight shortly after the political event, the company has faced significant public backlash for targeted advertising. In the reveal, whistleblower Christopher Wylie asserted that the firm had harvested information of over 50 million American citizens from Facebook and used it to influence their behavior preceding the election (Rosenberg et al.).
This development has brought a despicable taste of the platform among its users because they feel betrayed and that their data was used without their consent.
