Understanding the various Linux distributions helps in appreciating how the Linux operating system offers diverse packages that a user can choose from. The popularity that Linux enjoys is due to the fact that it is an open source operating system that can be customized to an individual’s or institution’s needs. Linux has a wide range of uses, where it has been used in modern supercomputers, smart devices and in internet infrastructure components (Legay et al. 9). It is common among developers, indicating its ability to host different development capabilities.
